By Brian Dohrn | Dohrn Travels | Bonaire Cruisers
Bonaire is the kind of island that pulls in travelers who like to explore at their own pace. Clear water, easy shore snorkeling, quiet backroads, and just enough adventure to keep things interesting. It’s especially popular with cruisers and repeat visitors who want more than a beach chair near the port.
This was my second visit to Bonaire and my second time renting from Bonaire Cruisers. On a previous Holland America cruise I explored the south side of the island, so on this trip, Holland America ABC Island Cruise, was all about getting farther out and seeing the north coast. After researching things to do in Bonaire and remembering how smooth the process was last time, renting a golf cart again made sense.
So, if you’re deciding between an organized tour and doing your own thing, this Bonaire Cruisers review breaks down exactly what to expect, what worked well, and what I’d do differently next time.

Why Choose Bonaire Cruisers for a Bonaire Golf Cart Rental?
To begin with, if freedom is high on your priority list, renting a golf cart is one of the best ways to experience Bonaire. Bonaire Cruisers stood out because they make the process simple, especially for cruise passengers with limited time on the island.
What I like most is that this isn’t a rushed rental. You’re given a quick but thorough rundown, a map, and honest guidance on which parts of the island make sense to explore in a single day. That local knowledge goes a long way when you’re trying to decide between the northern or southern routes.
Also, for travelers who want flexibility without the hassle of renting a full car, golf cart rental Bonaire style is a comfortable middle ground. You can stop when something catches your eye, linger at snorkeling spots, and skip the rigid schedules that come with shore excursions.
Is Renting from Bonaire Cruisers Easy from the Cruise Port?
Yes, renting from Bonaire Cruisers is straightforward, especially if you’re arriving by cruise ship. The process is well organized and designed to get you on the road without wasting valuable port time.
Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart Rental Process Step by Step
Step 1: Reserve Your Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart Ahead of Time
I reserved online before the cruise and recommend doing the same. Even though there appeared to be plenty of carts available, cruise days can get busy and having a reservation removes any guesswork.
Step 2: Choose the Right Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart
There are three cart options available:
- Standard golf cart ($105/day)
- Deluxe golf cart ($115/day)
- Premium carts ($180/day)
Printing your reservation helps during check-in, especially if cell service is spotty.
Pricing may change slightly by season, but this gives you a good baseline when deciding which cart fits your plans.
Step 3: Check In Near the Bonaire Cruise Port
On cruise port day, after getting off the ship, walk through the South Pier Mall and turn left toward town. Then, just outside the port, you’ll find the Bonaire Cruisers booth where you check in and confirm your reservation.
Staff provides clear walking directions to the main rental location, so there’s no guessing involved.
Step 4: Walk to the Bonaire Cruisers Rental Location
From the booth, it’s about a three-block walk east. After that, you’ll turn right near Bon Appetit Restaurant, easily spotted by the large Coca-Cola bottle on the building. Finally, the Bonaire Cruisers rental location is half a block down on the left.
The walk is simple and takes only a few minutes.
Step 5: Complete Check In and Orientation
Once at the rental location, the process moves quickly. A staff member walks you through:
- Golf cart controls and basic safety
- Local driving etiquette
- Which areas of the island are realistic to explore in one day
Before leaving, grab a map. It’s especially helpful if you plan to head north.
Step 6: Pick Up Your Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart and Head Out
After orientation, you’re taken to your assigned cart and shown how everything works. In addition, the carts were clean, well maintained, and ready to go. Also, the entire process felt straightforward without being rushed, which made it easy to start the day relaxed and confident.

Premium Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart
This is what I rented on this trip.

My Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart Recommendation Based on Experience
If speed and storage are your top priorities, the Premium cart delivers. That said, the noise and extra fuel cost slightly reduce the value.
For most travelers, I’d recommend the Deluxe golf cart. It offers the best balance of comfort, value, and quiet driving, especially if you’re spending a full day exploring.

Can You Explore the Whole Island in One Day?
You can see a lot of Bonaire in one day, but you won’t see everything.
Most travelers break the island into two main routes: north and south.
While it’s technically possible to attempt both, I’d recommend choosing one and taking your time rather than rushing between stops.
On a previous visit, I explored the south side of the island, which is flatter and more beach-focused.
This time, I headed north, and the experience felt completely different. Because the north side offers more elevation, viewpoints, and quieter snorkeling spots, which made it a better fit for a full day of exploring by golf cart.

Exploring the North Side of Bonaire with a Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart
The north side of Bonaire feels more rugged and less developed than the south. It’s a good mix of nature, culture, and adventure, especially if you enjoy scenic drives and stopping when something catches your eye.
This route worked well with a Bonaire golf cart rental and gave us enough variety without feeling rushed.
Snorkeling Bonaire 1000 Steps by Golf Cart
This was one of the highlights of the day.
The stairs are steep, and the climb back up was manageable, but the payoff is worth it. In addition, the water was clear, entry was feasible, and the snorkeling was great. If you’re comfortable with the steps, this is one of the best north side stops.
Tolo Dive Site Stop on the North Route
Tolo Dive Site paired nicely with 1000 Steps and helped round out the snorkeling portion of the day.
It was calmer and less crowded than spots closer to town, making it a relaxed place to get in the water without feeling rushed. However, getting into the water can be a bit challenging due to a 4–5 foot rock wall you’ll need to carefully navigate down.
Goto Lake Viewpoint Scenic Stop
This quick stop offers a wide view over Goto Lake and the surrounding landscape.
Also, it’s worth pulling over for photos and to spot flamingos in the distance. Even a short stop here adds variety to the drive.
Cadushy Distillery Refreshment Stop
Cadushy Distillery in Rincón makes a good refreshment break before heading back toward town.
It’s a short stop, but it adds a nice dose of local flavor to the route and gives you a chance to slow down after a stretch of driving.
The distillery produces a variety of spirits, including rum, vodka, whisky, gin, and island liqueurs. Also, their garden area is peaceful and relaxing, making it a great spot to grab some shade and watch the birds. The liquors are surprisingly good, and it’s definitely worth stopping here if you have the time.
🌴 Looking for the Best Tours in Bonaire?
Whether you’re visiting Bonaire on a cruise or staying longer on the island, there are plenty of great tours to choose from—snorkeling trips, island tours, and off-road adventures that are easy to book and fit well into a port day. These popular experiences are a good option if you want to explore more without planning everything yourself.
Is a Bonaire Cruisers Golf Cart Rental Worth the Cost?
For me, yes, with a few caveats:
- The Premium cart cost about $180 per day plus fuel. The higher speed was useful, especially on longer north side stretches, but the noise and added fuel cost slightly reduced the overall value.
- The Standard and Deluxe carts include gasoline and are quieter, which makes them a better value for most travelers. But, these carts are a lot slower than the Premium cart.
- The Premium cart works best for two people who want extra space and don’t mind the noise. I liked the higher seating position, but it could be uncomfortable for travelers with mobility concerns.

Tips for Driving a Golf Cart Rental in Bonaire
Driving a golf cart on Bonaire is simple, but a few habits make the day smoother.
- Traffic moves faster than golf carts, so pull over when it’s safe and let cars pass
- Wear sunscreen or lightweight pants since the roof doesn’t fully shade your legs
- Bring a hat and water to stay comfortable in the heat
Even on breezy days, the sun adds up quickly when you’re exposed for hours at a time.

What to Pack for a Day Exploring Bonaire by Golf Cart
A little preparation goes a long way when you’re spending the day exploring Bonaire by golf cart. You’re exposed to sun, wind, and saltwater for hours, so packing the right gear makes the experience more comfortable and enjoyable.
Here’s what I’d recommend bringing along:
- Sun hat – The cart has a roof, but the sun still hits your face and arms most of the day
- Long sleeve sun shirt – Lightweight and breathable protection without overheating
- Snorkel set – Easy shore access makes snorkeling in Bonaire a must
- Anti-fog spray – Keeps your mask clear when hopping between spots
- Water shoes – A must for rocky entries at Bonaire snorkeling sites
- Microfiber beach towel – Dries fast and doesn’t take up much space
- Insulated water bottle – Staying hydrated is key in the heat

- Day Pack – Small day pack to keep everything organized
